you might read this and think, why in the world did mom write about this topic?! but, if you can't talk about it and laugh about days like these, you'd end up spending most of your time crying! so here's a snapshot into our life when hudson, you were 2 1/2 and hayes, you were 1.
it all began at the mcdonalds in decatur where i picked you up after you stayed with bibby and pauly while we were gone for a few days. hudson, bibby told me that the night before you had gotten sick in the night several times. i left feeling aweful that they had to take care of my sick child while i was sleeping in and living it up in phoenix. however, about 40 minutes into our drive home, you started crying, asking for your daddy and then proceeded to throw up four times all over yourself and the car while i was slowing down to pull over. i don't do 'bugs' very well....the actual creature type or illness type. i literally opened your backseat door, immediately slammed it shut and got back into my seat and went, oh my gosh, i'm the mom. i HAVE to take care of you and this situation. as you can imagine, you were freezing on the side of the road with your clothes covered, hayes was screaming in his car seat, and i just kept saying "oh my gosh. okay, i can do this. oh my gosh. okay, i can do this..." long story short, i used an entire box of wipes to clean you and the car, stripped the carseat to only the straps, made a "bucket" out of a diaper for you to hold in case i couldn't get stopped again, left the paci that had fallen out and i had accidentally run over, and prayed like mad all the way home that we could just make it home. meanwhile, every few minutes, you'd cry out, "it melly mommy!!!" "what's that mell"....you're very sensitive to odors or (s)mells....this was one instance where i didn't blame you. ....
we made it home, you rallied after a bath, hayes threw up that night at 11pm, and today started. daddy left at 6:45 this morning. hayes woke up screaming with a very upset tummy. hayes, this continued for you the rest of the day. i decided mid-morning that we needed to "get out for a drive to look for diggers"....that's my code for, i'm about to combust and need a break! i went outside to discover that i'd left your carseat outside over night and all of the water had frozen. after some finagling, i rigged your carseat, got everyone loaded, and hudson, you proceeded to tell me that the car was still too melly and that you wanted to go home...over and over and over. the afternoon carried on with 6 loads of laundry full of blankets, lovies, sheets, etc. 2 showers for myself, a lot of carpet cleaning due to the recurrance of our 'bug', 3 sets of sheets changed, 2 bathtubs cloroxed, an entire package of diapers used between the two of you, so much hand-washing that all 10 of my fingers are sore to the touch, and lots of sweet rocking and snuggling with both of you...at one point, both of you at the same time, as hudson, you had just gotten sick again, and hayes, you fell face-first as i tried to keep you from getting in the middle of the mess. you were both screaming, both pulling on my legs, and so, i reached down, scooped you both up on each hip and we all 3 shed a tear together!! ;) how does Kate+8 do this??! daddy came home at 7:45 and said, how was your day?? oh boy........
That's awful! This story sounds a little familiar to sara's family getting the bug last year on the way home from Houston...they recovered, but the car never did! I'm so sorry you had to go through that on.your.own! I would have pulled into a hotel and got a room, and then called Joey to "come deal with everything!" lol. Your diaper bowl...genius!!!! Let me know if I can do anything!!! Hopefully it's the 24 hr "bug" that's been going around...well, 24 hr for adults, but a bit longer for these little ones!
ReplyDeleteWow, you get the BEST Mommy award! We have yet to deal with a stomach bug (knocking on wood right now), but I can only imagine. Thanks for sharing!
